I'm not one to get loud when angry. I would rather take a walk than destroy property. There have been a few news stories that not only have my attention; they have made me very very angry. All of these stories deserve the WTF award.
1. Take a look at this DJ who sex trafficked nearly 700 Black women and teenage girls! I read this story yesterday and I had a hard time fighting the urge to not punch this man in the face! At the same time, I really want justice and support for these young ladies who went through this ordeal as well as support for their families and loved ones. I'm really angry because funding for HIV/AIDS was severely cut by this ragtag administration.
2. These girls didn't need to be strip-searched at all. I read this story as well and I wanted to know what exactly prompted the the need to strip search 12 year old Black girls. One of the persons who facilitated this humiliating experience was alleged commenting how big one the girls' breasts were. I hope one of those girls' parents made a complaint and SUED the hell of the school district. Our children come to school to learn, not get ready for prison.
3. McDonald's workers endured sexual harassment so they went on strike. The story brought me back to the time period in which I served this country in the U.S. Navy. I too endured groping, unwanted and unwarranted comments, exposure of male genitalia. I too endured the mocking when I reported the incidents. I too endured middle management afraid to do the right thing and punish those who committed the egregiously disrespectful acts. Unfortunately, I didn't have the option to strike.
4. She's getting money because she was strip searched in public. I'm not mad because Natalie Simms is getting money from the city. She deserved the money for what she endured. She didn't deserve the indignity of a strip search nor did she deserve some cop making comments about how hairy her genitalia was at the time.
One day humankind will get it together and respect bodily autonomy. Thank you for letting me rant.
