Donald Trump decided to betray our Kurdish allies in order to Put America First and to bring home the troops. But the troops are not coming home. Guess where they’re going instead? To Iraq.
Trump, who knows more about ISIS than the generals, promised a secret plan to defeat and eliminate them. His plan turned out to be a continuation of Obama’s strategy, which involved an alliance with the Kurds. This eventually succeeded in liberating ISIS-occupied territory. But ISIS continues to exist. Fortunately, they’ve been contained for the time being. By the Kurds, who’ve been holding them in prisons.
While Turkey undertakes its Trump-approved ethnic cleansing, the fleeing Kurds can no longer guard the prisons. Some ISIS fighters have already escaped. Many more are at risk of escaping.
At first, Trump declared that ISIS was now a European problem. He declared that Turkey is now responsible for the prisoners. When he finally saw how politically damaging it would be for him if the remaining ISIS prisoners escaped, the guy with the really good brain figured that maybe he shouldn’t let that happen. His plan to fight back? Move the troops to Iraq.
Not all of the troops are going to Iraq. Some of the troops that were withdrawn from Syria are going to...stay in Syria. Because not only did Trump fail to think ahead about the escape of ISIS prisoners, he also forgot about the oil fields, which were also being guarded by the Kurds. Troops stationed in Iraq aren’t going to stop ISIS from taking over the oil fields. For that, they need to be in Syria.
To summarize, the stable genius decided that starting a war was the way to "stop the endless wars” and help bring about “world peace”. Throwing our allies under the bus was OK because we don’t need them anymore. We don’t need them because ISIS has been defeated. So now Trump can Put America First and bring home the troops. But since it was our Kurdish allies who were keeping ISIS under control, ISIS suddenly isn’t defeated anymore, so the troops that are coming home are actually staying in the Middle East to fight ISIS all over again. Such “infinite wisdom”!
Meanwhile there’s Lindsey Graham. #LindseyTheLapdog showed a hint of a spine when he initially condemned Trump’s Syria withdrawal. But after Trump announced the cease fire that wasn’t really a cease fire, Lindsey returned to being Lindsey again. He is now “increasingly optimistic”. Trump, he says, is “thinking outside the box”.
It’s too late to undo all this damage. The best we can do is to prevent more of it from happening. Trump needs to be removed from office. Republican phony patriots like Lindsey Graham will do their part to prevent that from happening. Graham, like Trump will be up for re-election. 2020 can’t come soon enough.
