Campaign Action
Republican House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy has done nothing but lie since Donald Trump's pressure campaign to get Ukraine to interfere in 2020 came into public view. In his 60 Minutes interview Sunday, he could barely keep a straight face when he was called out for spewing White House talking points while refusing to answer any actual questions. But now a guy who's been a stalwart cheerleader for Trump's efforts to solicit foreign interference in U.S. elections is concerned about the "integrity" of the impeachment process and wants Democrats to suspend the inquiry.
“Unfortunately, you have given no clear indication as to how your impeachment inquiry will proceed—including whether key historical precedents or basic standards of due process will be observed,” McCarthy wrote Thursday in a letter to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
“In addition, the swiftness and recklessness with which you have proceeded has already resulted in committee chairs attempting to limit minority participation in scheduled interviews, calling into question the integrity of such an inquiry,” he continued.
Wow, this is rich—a Republican worried about recklessness. Too bad he's not concerned about the "integrity" of our elections.
Newsflash, Kevin, we're kind of in an unprecedented situation where a Republican Congress allowed a harebrained GOP president to do whatever he wanted for two years and so he went ahead and began soliciting illegal help from abroad for his reelection campaign, put our national security at risk, and betrayed his oath of office. Now Democrats are trying to clean up the mess you and your GOP colleagues left for them, so perhaps you could do something useful and put country over party. What a thought.
