The NRA has been pouring money into Virginia, an important 2019 state for their entire enterprise. And thus for all Virginians, too. Virginia's legislature is on the verge of flipping to Democrats this fall, and that's in no small part because of the May 31 mass shooting in Virginia Beach, in which 12 people were killed.
The NRA has been trying to keep gun safety measures off the docket since, and are fighting with all they've got to keep their trapped and tame law-makers in office. One of the worst of them is now being challenged by Democrat Phil Hernandez. And the NRA is all in.
Just weeks after the Virginia Beach massacre, Republican Del. Rob Bloxom co-hosted an NRA town hall, a private event that the press was barred from attending. At the time, Hernandez blasted Bloxom, saying "Rob Bloxom invited the gun lobby into our community just one month after the mass shooting in Virginia Beach—the worst mass shooting of 2019. This meeting was held behind closed doors, as the press was prohibited from covering the event. This secrecy does not serve our community."
Hernandez is young enough to have been in school after Columbine, and the experience of participating in "active shooter" drills, he said. "And year after year, I've watched politicians like Rob Bloxom stand in the way of commonsense reforms to keep our kids and our communities safe. We can respect the Second Amendment and take sensible steps forward together to reduce gun violence, which is fundamentally a public health crisis."
For that, the NRA is attacking him with a door knocker being distributed around the district. The NRA gave him an "F" rating, of which he should be proud. But notice how hard the NRA worked to minimize the fact that they're the ones paying for this. Any mention of NRA is in the fine print. It's almost like they know they're a pariah everywhere in 2019, including Virginia.
Give now to beat the NRA and turn Virginia blue!
