Ambassador Sondland has sent the entire Trump administration rolling under the Greyhound, making it clear without the least bit of equivocation, this was a “quid pro quo,” and the ramifications are already rippling out. None other than Kenneth Starr has gone on Fox to suggest that a GOP trip to the White House might be in the works:
In the run-up to the release of Gordon Sondland’s opening statement for this Wednesday’s impeachment hearings, Fox News contributor Ken Starr suggested that Sondland’s testimony could cause GOP senators to push for President Trump’s resignation.
“The real issue is the senators are watching,” Starr said. “Are senators going to now say in light of what we hear today, it’s going to be a long day even with the ambassador alone, in light of what we have heard, ‘We need to make a trip down to the White House’?”
I can think of one Senator for whom I would have a very pointed question.
After all, it was Lindsey Graham who went on record to promise us that if he ever heard what he heard today, he would find it “highly disturbing.” You and I, all of us, knew at the time that this would come back to haunt him. Now we get to enjoy its fruition.
At this point, the GOP is going to need a new message, a new defense. They’ve run through absolutely everything they’ve had, and at each point it just keeps getting worse.
One thing that ought to terrify the GOP is that we haven’t heard from the “real witnesses” yet. We haven’t heard from Bolton, we haven’t heard from Giuliani, Parnas or Fruman, imagine what “truths” might come out if they are ever allowed/forced to testify?
No one ever worried about it before because the Trump administration so easily avoided the truth. Maybe not so much now.
These have to be some of the questions going through the Senator GOP minds. I don’t think for a second that Lindsey Graham is disturbed by what he’s seen. I do, however, think they ALL are disturbed by what they don’t see, stuff that they don’t know of yet, evidence that makes all this look rather quaint.
I wonder if Republican Senators choose to cut this off at the head before we see more, stuff created down lower, the real shit.
Remember, all roads do eventually lead to Putin. They may want this over sooner rather than later, if this is the direction things are going to go.
Peace, y’all.
