UPDATE #2
Last week, there was a huge number of subpoenas filed under sealed case names in the DC court and it is a pretty good bet that this is all for one investigation because of the sequential case numbers. (see screenshot below)
These are civil proceedings where prosecutors request electronic communications and other data/files from the service providers and 3rd party file storage, (like Icloud)
Note that this is one of 3 pages. (bottom right) so that means almost 50 people are having their email accounts and Icloud files turned over to prosecutors right now. And note, these requests are usually to corroborate evidence they already have in their possession from the person on the other side of the electronic communication.
So this is either:
1. an unrelated organized crime case with a lot of defendants
2. The NRA probe, which fits with the delay to February 26
3. Related to the electronic communications of Roger Stone that were seized as part of the search warrant executed at the time of his arrest
4. Or finally, the Cohen probe, which explains the delay in the testimony of Michael Cohen before House Intel.
5. UPDATE #2
these were found by doing a blanket search in ECF under the Stored Communications Act cause of action.
Note: These requests could have been filed all over the country, and the fact that they were filed in DC means that the party involved either lives or works in DC and made the communication or upload while in the District. I didn’t check any other jurisdictions to see if there were similar spikes in activity, the most likely being the EDVA (if the NRA case was involved), MDD, or SDNY in the Cohen Case.
