It is very hard to argue that Iowa Republican Rep. Steve King isn’t crazy racist. But it’s also not hard to argue that there’s a lot of money to be made as a right-wing talking-point parrot, particularly for members of marginalized communities. King’s been so tough to defend that even fellow Republicans have tried to downplay his existence in their party of late. But King is nothing if not consistent in his craven awfulness. He tweeted this out today:
If you don’t know who Diamond and Silk are, lucky you! They’re two women of color who have created a nice cottage industry cheerleading for Donald Trump. Since they are two of the very few people of color that right-wing media knows who don’t openly loathe right-wing media, they get a lot of air time on the Fox Newses of the world. In King’s case, it is hard to tell whether he’s trying to troll people or actually believes this will prove that he isn’t racist. My guess, in all honesty, is that Steve King thinks that showing he is willing to give tickets to people of color is proof that he isn’t racist. I also believe that King shares a common misconception about racism: that it only manifests itself in the ways he saw in the mini-series Roots.
The ratio on King’s tweet is rather extraordinary, as the responses to it came in fast and furious.
No, it is not.
Great show, by the way.
Kinda true.
Even more so.
So much cringing.
He-he.
You have to have a Simpsons gif!
