Today, Daily Kos announced key findings from a nationwide survey of Americans commissioned through Civiqs. The poll of 1622 adults was conducted online from March 9-12 and reveals Donald Trump maxing out at 44 percent in head-to-head matchups with six declared or potential Democratic presidential candidates. Declared candidates performed strongly against Trump, with Bernie Sanders favored 46-44 percent, Kamala Harris and Elizabeth Warren tied with him at 44-44 percent, and Cory Booker being narrowly edged out at 42-44 percent. Despite not yet officially declaring their likely presidential runs, Joe Biden tops Trump (48-43 percent), and Beto O’Rourke was only narrowly bested by Trump (43-44 percent).
Additionally, a majority of respondents think Congress should do more to investigate Michael Cohen’s claims about Trump (52 percent) and believe Trump should publicly release his tax returns (58 percent). Other issues surveyed include gun violence, foreign policy with regard to Venezuela, and Fox News viewership.
“The best antidote to hot takes about current events is hard data, and Daily Kos is continuing to commission monthly polls through Civiqs to gauge real public sentiment towards key issues, leaders, and more,” said Carolyn Fiddler, communications director for Daily Kos. “March’s research reveals that frequent Fox News viewers have views far outside the mainstream of most respondents when it comes to Trump-related questions. While 58 percent of all Americans think Trump should release his tax returns, 82 percent of frequent Fox viewers think he should not. Just 36 percent total think that Congress should stop investigating Cohen’s claims about Trump, but a whopping 72 percent of frequent Fox viewers want no further exploration of this line of inquiry.”
“Civiqs is pleased to partner with Daily Kos to conduct these monthly surveys,” said Civiqs director and chief scientist Drew Linzer. “These snapshots of public sentiment will provide valuable context to our ongoing tracking polls, which provide continuously updated data on how Americans feel about various issues and view key political leaders.”
