Although the Politico story wants to talk about “Texas Infight”, I see the story as how both our Texas nominees are putting the state right in the middle of ALL the democratic contenders as a prize to win. Despite who you support this is a win-win.
Hours before the former El Paso congressman unveiled his presidential bid, Harris announced she was heading to Texas — an unmistakable warning shot at a fellow upstart competing to capture the imagination of Democratic voters.
Good for her, and others should follow
...Harris isn’t ceding Texas to O’Rourke or his fellow Texan Julián Castro, the former Obama-era Housing and Urban Development secretary from San Antonio. If anything, it’s the opposite: She wants to make clear that she’s willing to go toe-to-toe with O’Rourke, the charismatic Gen-Xer who starts the race with more money and a similar knack for drawing media and exciting audiences.
Yasss!! despite my personal preferences this is what I want my candidate to do/say… don't cede a state because it is Red or “we never win there in the general , why bother”. ALL states matter.
Texas has 228 pledged delegates, its Primary is on Super Tuesday, it is diverse (Sí, muchos latinos).
O’Rourke, after his Senate race, has a huge edge starting out: A University of Texas/Texas Tribune Poll last year put his favorability among Democrats at 93 percent.
I would dare to say that the two Texan candidates will have great favorabilities, I don't see a reason why any dem candidate would have lower numbers, maybe name recognition but I bet all hovering around the 90s. Where do the indies fall?
So, besides Julián, Beto, and now Kamala I challenge the rest to visit Texas, make this THE year.
