Louisiana Democrats sent a 2020 election warning to Republicans on Saturday.
The message? Donald Trump is your political anchor, and he’s sinking you big-ly.
The Louisiana GOP, in a desperate last-minute attempt to save these districts, sent out a political mailer claiming Trump wasn't a crook. Was there anything in the mailer that mentioned healthcare, the economy, etc.? No. It was all about “collusion.”
Louisiana voters responded by soundly rejecting the GOP.
After experiencing two years of the corrupt wrecking ball that is Donald Trump and his Republican cronies, voters are waking up. When Democrats are in charge, they serve the greater good.
Case in point: One of Democrat John Bel Edwards’ first acts as Governor was to expand Medicaid in Louisiana, which has improved and saved the lives of thousands.
The results have been amazing.
Since Gov. Edwards agreed to the expansion in 2016, 473,900 Louisianians signed up. That is almost 100,000 more people than the state originally expected.
The census report said Louisiana's uninsured rate dropped to 8.4 percent in 2017 from 10.3 percent in 2016. That has to be due almost entirely to the Medicaid expansion.
The latest Louisiana Health Insurance Survey by LSU researchers also found that the number of uninsured residents had fallen in the state. According to that survey, 11.4 percent of adults under age 65 in Louisiana lacked health insurance in 2017. That was down from 22.7 percent just two years earlier.
We should all be encouraged when voters are engaged. With that engagement in deep Southern states like Louisiana, we are seeing incredible election results—because when Democrats are in charge, we improve the lives of Americans. There is a hunger for change. If Democrats keep talking about what matters to Americans, we can continue to win elections, even in places where Republicans are expected to win.
