Up until now it could have been argued that the “Deep State” view of the government was an easily dismissed idea espoused by a fringe element of Trump supporters and perhaps secondary or tertiary embers of the Trump advisory contingent.
Today on This Week Trump’s “acting” Chief of Staff, Mick Mulvaney was asked to defend the claims of exoneration thanks to the Mueller Report findings, being made by Trump.
His reply is a masterwork of evasion and doubletalk.
And then proceeds to fully put the blame for starting and conducting the investigation on the Deep State (though he couches it by saying “if you want to call it that- even though he’s clearly the one that wants to do so. Which in itself is odd considering his background).
The early months to years of this administration were marked by semi- reasonable appointments to Cabinet and other key posts (in the sense that they were acceptable to the establishment). Trump has rid himself of all the adults that were marginally in the room. The conspiracy theorists and sympathizers have emerged from the shadows into the most prominent positions in the administration. The GOP has followed suit and is remade in his image. We are now governed by conspiracy theorists.
