House Democrats pass anti-corruption and pro-voting-rights bill without a single Republican vote

House Democrats have laid down a marker: H.R. 1, the major government reform bill that would clean up elections, protect voting rights, strengthen ethics laws, and limit dark money in politics has passed the House on a party line vote, 234 to 193. 

It’s yet another reminder that elections matter—and that Republicans don’t want free and fair elections that are free of dark money influences. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell not only won’t allow a vote on this bill, but he’s claimed it’s a power grab by Democrats, because that’s just how threatening he finds voting rights and ethics laws.
