I am going to share two photos that really drive home how big our universe is, and how small we really are. Much like Sagan’s “Pale Blue Dot” image, the first images of that black hole are inspiring and humbling.
My son and I already talked about it this morning and it really has me craving to watch Cosmos again with him. The idea of how small we are on a planet that is enveloped in the vastness of space is mind-blowing.
Many of the images we’ve seen of the black hole are zoomed in, blurry, emphasizing the event horizon of that black hole. The web comic XKCD was able to put that event horizon into scale.
The second image I’m about to share also puts THAT image into perspective. It comes from NASA and is the wide view of the black hole.
It really puts who we are and how we fit into the universe into perspective. Everything we know, fight about, love, hate is here. It is also why we must stop the destruction of our home. There is so much SPACE out there, and no where else for us to go.
