It’s not just Attorney General William Barr whose statements regarding Donald Trump’s guilt have turned out to be spin, fantasy, and fantasy spin. The Mueller report shows that Trump’s primary congressional spokesperson, Devin Nunes, was also engaged in dervish-level rotation when he issued his “No collusion!” report signed only by Republicans on the House Intelligence Committee. Every claim that Nunes made about both the innocence of the Trump campaign and the origins of the Russia investigation was utterly annihilated by the evidence in the report.
Appearing on Sean Hannity’s show this week, Nunes had an important tip for fans of Donald Trump concerned by the fact that the Mueller report shows Trump lying, telling others to lie, and being saved mostly by the fact that some people did not listen to him when he instructed them to break the law. According to Nunes, Trump fans should simply not read the report. Instead, Trumpistas can enjoy a sweet nostalgia rush by just cracking open the Nunes report and reading it again.
After all, why get upset reading the jagged edges of reality in the results of the investigation when they can rest on the soft, comforting clouds of the cover-up?
Now that Nunes has moved on from blocking every single subpoena that the committee tried to issue to suing cartoon cows, he clearly has the time to visit with Hannity and promote his work. In fact, Nunes should just write another report. It’s not like he needs access to facts.
