Our family has a very secular lefty-leaning Passover Seder, heavy on the traditional foods and Civil Rights songs. The highpoint this year was when 14-year-old grandson Gideon rapped about the “Four Questions.” One Passover tradition is to open the door and welcome in anyone who is without. Donald Trump and the Kushners probably leave that part out of their Seder. Gideon was helped with the lyrics by his Zaydeh.
Ma nish tanah halailah hazay?
What does the world learn from this day?
Israelites left Egypt to become free
Their trip is part of our history.
Pharaoh’s oppression made them refugees
Today desperate people ask in please.
No time for their bread to rise.
Dream oh dream of America’s skies.
They had to cross the mighty Red Sea
Now the Mexican border what they flee.
Across the desert did Hebrews crawl.
Now Trump keep us out with a wall.
Ma nish tanah halailah hazay?
Learn from the past and let them stay!
