One of the more obvious results of the Mueller report is the concerted effort, at almost every turn, of the Trump administration’s clear attempts to slow down, hamper, and inevitably obstruct the investigation into his campaign’s ties with foreign entities. At the very beginning of today’s Senate Judiciary Committee hearing with Attorney General William Barr, ranking Democratic Sen. Diane Feinstein pointed out that Trump told his lawyers to lie to investigators in the hopes of covering up any wrongdoings. Barr’s response was somewhat mind-blowing.
Sen. Feinstein: You still have a situation where the President tries to change the lawyers’ account, in order to prevent further criticism of himself.
Barr: Well, that’s not a crime.
You can watch that moment below. But here’s a spoiler: it IS a crime. It is the crime of obstruction of justice.
