I watched a segment of Ari Melber’s show this morning dealing with Rod Rosenstein. It was pretty brutal and ended with Mr. Melber asking if Rosenstein himself passed the “Rosenstein Test” for integrity.
It sure doesn’t look like it. It looks like Rod Rosenstein was set up publicly as this hyper honest model of integrity so that he could then turn and help Mr. Trump break the law- again, and walk off with his credibility intact. It will have to be investigated and surely will be. This is my opinion, of course, I can’t state it as fact but opinion, mine and ours, can be enough to start that investigation. That’s why Mr. Melber does what he does, puts the facts together so that other folks can see what happened and form an opinion. Mine says that Rosenstein, like so many others, sold us out.
The question is why? I have to admit to a morbid fascination with the motives of people who betray what they have told the rest of us are their bedrock ideals. Why did Judas do it, why were thirty pieces of silver enough for him and what form did Mr. Rosenstein’s silver take?
Oh, it isn’t just him, all of them that come to serve the whims and pleasure of Trump confuse me. If I could, I’d ask them, how could you do that? We know some of you as men and women of honor, or thought we did, we held that view of you because you did the right things and made the right decisions in the past. So, what was different about this time, this decision, what were your thirty pieces of soul?
I didn't like seeing Misters Rosenstein, Barr and Sessions laughing it up at Rosenstein’s going away party over at the DoJ, I didn't appreciate Barr joking that the debate is raging over who can hold the most deadpan face while blatantly lying to the American people to help shield a criminal from prosecution.
I didn’t like it at all, it angers me, I want to see them taught that they are laughing too soon. And I have a burning desire to know- what was your price, for what did you sell your soul.
Will it be enough for you as the truth comes out? Will it be your comfort, whatever it was, when you aren't seen as the men who cried wolf but as the men who laughingly let the wolves in through the gate as the rest of us lay sleeping. The guys who chuckled as they tried to wipe their fingerprints from the chain in case the wolves weren't thorough. I wonder if they really think to get away with it? Not only did they sell us out, they’re laughing at us about it in plain sight.
Do they really expect all of us to roll over and take that, maybe because that’s what they did when Trump ridiculed them? Well, I’ll have to show them somehow that I’m made of a different stuff than that and I think the majority of my fellow citizens are too. I think it may feel incredibly good and powerful to rub my and our noses into what they did, I hope they’re downloading that feeling onto their neural hard drive so they can access it when reality and the mis-approbation of the rest of us yanks them back to earth. Because, yanked they shall be and this time there isn't any appetite for a genteel pardon to save “Face”, no, this time we call a criminal a criminal.
We learned from Nixon what happens when we listen to that “We need to show respect for the office” crap that we heard from Ford. No, the office of the presidency will be shown the highest respect when we put people who spit on it and what it represents- the American people, into their proper place- sent to prison or consigned to Coventry and I don’t much care which as long as it’s to the fullest extent of the law. I care that we make it happen, for the rule of law, for the honor of our people and yes, for the future generations of Americans who will have to deal with it if we let them get away with this.
Any of them, even, maybe especially, those who we thought were the good guys.
There’s steam coming off of my bald pate today at all that I’m seeing, but a fresh wind of justice will clear off that fog- it’s coming, I know it is. I can smell it, like spring after a long winter.
Have a happy Tuesday!
