New polling shows immense enthusiasm in states that will be key in the 2020 presidential election for putting Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals and Temporary Protected Status holders onto a path to citizenship.” The Immigration Hub-commissioned polling “found that 74% of Colorado voters, 71% of Pennsylvania voters, and 78% percent of Michigan voters, believe that the United States government should offer a path to citizenship for Dreamers and TPS-holders.”
In Michigan, support stretches across party lines, with 95% of Democrats, 80% of independents, and 56% of Republicans supporting protections for undocumented immigrant youth and TPS holders, who are unable to return to their home countries due to natural disasters or civil unrest or war. In Pennsylvania and Colorado, the majority of Democrats and independents also support legalization, while Republicans edge close, at 48% and 47%.
In poll after poll, American voters have shown overwhelming support for legalizing DACA recipients. In one 2017 poll, nearly 90% of respondents across party lines said that “they support a right to residency for undocumented immigrants who arrived in the United States as children.” Just last week, advocates cheered and hugged as the House Judiciary Committee approved a series of landmark bills that would put DACA and TPS recipients, along with Deferred Enforced Departure holders, onto a path to citizenship.
It’s time to end these families’ uncertainty once and for all. “Trump has made crystal clear that his 2020 strategy is all about immigration, but voters want solutions and not carnival barking and policies that separate families,” said Immigration Hub director Tyler Moran. “The Dream and Promise Act is just that. The bill protects over one million community members, colleagues and neighbors who are Dreamers and TPS holders.”
