Reporter and sociology trained Toluse Olorunnipa wrties in his Washington Post OpEd ‘”Investigate the investigators’ is new Trump rallying cry to counter Mueller report:”
For President Trump’s reelection effort, “Investigate the investigators!” is becoming the new “Lock her up!”
Trump and his allies, seeking to amplify claims that the FBI spied on his 2016 campaign, are seizing on news reports and statements by Attorney General William P. Barr to launch a political rallying cry they view as an antidote to special counsel Robert S. Mueller III’s findings.
Dismissed by critics as an outlandish conspiracy theory, so-called “spygate” is fast becoming a central feature of the Trump campaign as it seeks to go on offense in the wake of a report that identified 10 instances of potential obstruction of justice by Trump. The campaign is publicly calling for criminal investigations into former FBI officials, making “spygate” fundraising pitches and selling spy-themed merchandise. The goal, officials said, is to turn the Russia probe into a political winner that could help him secure another term.
I say “bring it on.”
We already know that the major, and possibly the only, damning aspect of the Russia investigation is the “what were they thinking” exchange of texts between FBI lawyer Lisa Page and FBI agent Peter Strzok.
I believe that Mueller once he was appointed, and the FBI during the campaign, did everything by the book from going through the rigourous process required to obtain FISA warrants (whether Trump wants to call what they authorized “spying” or not) to how they used the information in the Steele dossier.
They can try to make “investigate the investigators” and “spygate” the new “locker her up” and Benghazi.
Trump says what happened to him is worse than Watergate.
He has it backwards. What he did was far worse than Watergate.
So let Barr order an investigation of every aspect of the Russia investigation. There’s nothing wrong with the concept that the FBI must be held accountable and that their actions be investigated when appropriate. After all, at some point the shoe may be on the other foot and a Democratic president may have legitimate reasons to order the Justice Department to investigate something the FBI did.
Even with an investigation that tries to skew and spin the facts, facts are stubborn things — think Benghazi.
Eventually an investigation of the investigators will prove that Trump makes Richard Nixon, Benedict Arnold, Ethel and Julius Rosenberg combined look like rank amateurs in annals of treason against American.
A well publicized investigation will bite Trump in the ass.

Commenter Old Tymer reminded me of Nellie Ohr who, The Hill reminds us wrote “a series of “Hi Honey” emails from Nellie Ohr to her high-ranking federal prosecutor husband (Associate Deputy Attorney General Bruce Ohr) and his colleagues raise the prospect that Hillary Clinton-funded opposition research was being funneled into the Justice Department during the 2016 election through a back-door marital channel. It's a tale that raises questions of both conflict of interest and possible false testimony.”
In all fairness if there is enough evidence of impropriety this should be investigated. It may more of what we already know, i.e., that the more was learned about Trump’s campaign the more alarmed people privvy to this information became. Some may, and this is a big unproven MAY, have crossed the line and they should be held accountable if they did.
Demand a fair and transparent investigation and let the chips fall where they may. My belief is that by and large the FBI and DOJ under President Obama will be vindicated as will anything of substance Mueller and his team did.

Trump is tweeting like crazy, and making news on MSNBC as I post his most recent tweets from a few minutes ago:
After spending more than $35,000,000 over a two year period, interviewing 500 people, using 18 Trump Hating Angry Democrats & 49 FBI Agents - all culminating in a more than 400 page Report showing NO COLLUSION - why would the Democrats in Congress now need Robert Mueller...….....to testify. Are they looking for a redo because they hated seeing the strong NO COLLUSION conclusion? There was no crime, except on the other side (incredibly not covered in the Report), and NO OBSTRUCTION. Bob Mueller should not testify. No redos for the Dems!
The ironiy of this, and let’s face it irony generally is something Trump doesn’t grasp, is that if Trump pushes the Senate to investigate the Russia investigation Mueller will have to testify.
