Anyone who thinks the problem with the modern GOP is just Trump really isn't paying attention.
I just can’t.
This isn’t the first time Joe Biden has said that. But it’s instructive.
I had no idea it was Donald Trump that stopped Merrick Garland from serving on the Supreme Court.
I had no idea it was Trump that delivered no Republican votes for the Affordable Care Act, and spent years obstructing and undermining it, legislatively and judicially, before being selected president.
I had no idea that it was Trump who said, “The single most important thing we want to achieve is for President Obama to be a one-term president.”
I had no idea it was Trump who also said, about the Obama agenda, “We're going to do everything—and I mean everything we can do—to kill it, stop it, slow it down, whatever we can.”
I had no idea that Trump was behind the Tea Party, the very entity that remade the Republican Party into the Trumpian dystopian shithole it is today.
I didn’t know any of those things! But Joe Biden was there the entire time, wasn’t he? If someone should know, it would be him, right?
There’s no way he could’ve gotten all that wrong, is there?
