Jon Stewart took it to the Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights, and Civil Liberties of the House Judiciary Committee, and to Congress in general, for not showing up as he and 9/11 first responders came to testify about continuing full funding for the September 11 Victims Compensation Fund, which is facing cuts of up to 70%.
This is clearly not a scripted performance, since Stewart could not have known he’d be talking to a row of empty chairs.
“It’s shameful,” he said. It’s beyond shameful.
UPDATE: The New York Post reports that five of the 14 subcommittee members attended: Democrats Jerrold Nadler (NY), Steve Cohen (TN), Mary Gay Scanlon (PA), and Jamie Raskin (MD), and Republican Mike Johnson (LA).
