I’ve been having a wonderful time today dipping in and out of the MSNBC coverage of the South Carolina Democratic Convention. I tell you what, we have some AMAZING candidates and I can’t wait to see one of them sworn in to be the 46th president in 2021. Meanwhile, I’m enjoying listening to so many of them share with conviction, integrity, intelligence and compassion their vision for the future of our country.
One after another the candidates gave speeches today, and afterwards many of them went on to sit for interviews with Al Sharpton. That, too, was a lot of fun as the Rev, as he is fondly known, is very good at getting to the marrow on issues of civil rights. When it was Biden’s turn to interview, Rev. Sharpton, of course, asked Biden to address his comments earlier this week, about his interactions with racist senators and, specifically, whether he realized how much his ha-ha comments about not being called boy by a white supremacist had hurt so many black people.
Sharpton gave Biden every single opportunity to apologize in the most graceful of ways, to set this behind him, and to move on while remaining in Sharpton’s good graces. Biden failed miserably. He didn’t apologize, didn’t really even show any true understanding that what he had said was so painful. Sharpton was not amused, not a bit. My words don’t do it justice. You have to see it for yourself.
It starts at about 29:05.
Poll after poll shows that many of our candidates are electable. The idea that only a white male insider can win the presidency is simply not true.
