Update (12pm PST): Apparently this video has been faked, a sign of things to come in the world of new media. This sign was not hung from Trump Hotel in Las Vegas and we regret the error. The video was created as satire. The original post is below.
As comedian John Mulaney once joked—long before Donald Trump became president—that Trump “is like what a hobo imagines a rich man to be.” Putting your name in gold lettering on a tall building is one of those cartoon-rich-man ideas that Trump has added to the world of modern luxury architecture. Las Vegas is one of those American cities where a Trump hotel tower is an added garish eyesore to the skyline. But now, as president of the United States, Trump has brought a special je ne sais quoi to anything with his name on it.
On Tuesday, someone patriotic unfurled a Trump-sized protest of Trump’s policies on Trump’s Las Vegas hotel tower.
Republicans will continue to pretend that, since their immigration policies have yet to include a Nazi-style “final solution,” they aren’t morally bankrupt. But history says otherwise. The United States’ “detention centers,” imprisoning a specific concentration of innocent people, are concentration camps. Trump and the Republican Party are not the first Americans to employ concentration camps. Progressives everywhere are hoping to make them the last ones. As Israeli historian Yehuda Bauer once said, “Thou shalt not be a perpetrator, thou shalt not be a victim, and thou shalt never, but never, be a bystander.”
