California Senator Kamala Harris rounded out the second Democratic debate by talking about guns. Specifically, her plan to give Congress 100 days to act on gun safety before issuing an executive order, if she were president. This isn’t a new promise, either. We’ve covered her promise to take executive action on gun safety if Congress drags its feet and is unable to pass comprehensive legislation within 100 days of her taking office.
Her plan is incredibly thorough (and available to check out here, on her site), but in her own words, this is what she shared when she announced the plan in April:
“Upon being elected, I will give the United States Congress 100 days to get their act together and have the courage to pass reasonable gun safety laws and if they fail to do it, then I will take executive action and specifically what I would do is put in a requirement for anyone who sells more than five guns a year, they are required to do background checks when they sell those guns. I will require for any gun dealer that breaks the law, the ATF take their license."
Here’s a clip of her words tonight, as well as a live-stream of the debate below….
