Before we examine the topic of Thursday night’s debate, let’s quickly review Wednesday night’s debate. I’ll share my impressions briefly. I thought Julian Castro came off very well, Cory Booker became much more of a presence, and Elizabeth Warren held her own. She seemed passionate about what she believed.
As for the others: de Blasio and Ryan came off as obnoxious, Beto as not yet ready for prime time, Delaney as out in left field, Amy as competent but not a standout, Inslee as an entitled white male, and Tulsi had no pulsi.
The Thursday night debate was surprising in some ways: Joe Biden came off worse than expected, whereas Pete Buttigieg did quite well (which came as something of a surprise to me). Michael Bennet and Bernie Sanders seemed belligerent and off-key, Hickenlooper rather boastful, and Kirsten Gillibrand seemed desperate. Eric Swalwell sounded like a one-note Nelly and Marianne Williamson was just plain weird, although she did bring up the fact that if the Latin American countries producing the asylum seekers were given some help with their problems, there might be fewer people attempting to flee them.
Senator Harris stood no nonsense either from the moderators or her fellow debaters. When asked how the Democrats would pay for their plans to make life more equitable for millions of Americans, she asked pointedly, “Where was that question when Trump and the Republicans were passing a tax bill that benefited only the 1 percent?”
She made it a point to chastise Biden for his remarks about working across the aisle years ago with two Congressmen who were renowned for their racism, if for nothing else. Biden at first appeared properly chastened and then defensive.
If Wednesday was a breakout night for Castro, so Thursday night was a breakout night for Harris.
It will be interesting to see whether the misogynist male-dominated media sit up and take notice. I am quite sure we can look forward to more condescending articles about how a black former prosecutor can’t possibly defeat an illiterate, boorish rapist at election time, but we’ll see what happens.
What’s YOUR take on the debates? How do YOU think they all performed? The floor is yours, Joyful Warriors!

Group Guidelines
The Kamala2020 community group has been created to positively support Senator Kamala Harris, and not to engage in negativity towards other Democrats running in the 2020 primaries.
All should be made to feel welcomed here. What’s not welcomed here is petty bickering over any of our preferred candidates, or personal attacks on fellow Democrats. We’re not responsible for the actions of others who may offend, insult or attempt to sow discord and disunity — that’s on them.
What we are responsible for are our own words and actions — that’s 100% on us.
I’d like to ask all group members, as well as those dropping by who support or are interested in Kamala’s bid for the nomination, that we not respond to negativity from other campaign’s supporters with even more negativity. Let’s do better than our best and respond with respect, humor or try to hold our peace. Recipes and cat pics work, too 😃
Doing no harm costs us nothing... pie-fights will cost us everything.
