Okay, first apologies for not citing the show or the reporter. This is old news, but since it still goes on every day, perhaps it’s worth pointing out once more.
On National Public Radio, as part of coverage of Donald Trumps ridiculous tweets attacking the four progressives in the House of Representatives, it happened again. For the one millionth time a conservative mouthpiece was allowed to a. not answer the question, b. lie, and then c. finish his talking points. Then the reporter thanked him for his time and only at that point did the fact check come out. “No, actually, there is no evidence that the congresswoman from Michigan ever made positive statements about Al Quadah” as claimed by Trump’s lackey. No, that was untrue.
When are reporters planning to begin to push back in real time when they are lied to?
This is embarrassing at best. Somebody should be embarrassed and I am embarrassed for them.
These people are supposed to be professionals. They have staff. What are their producers doing?
We know these people are going to lie. Why can’t we be prepairrired to push back while they still have the mic in their face?
What good does it do to fact check after the guest has had his say. He was allowed to put his talking points out there. In full. The interview is over. The poster boy for bad faith has left the building. He got what he wanted.
Its possible we will lose this fight. If so, I for one hope that in the end, its not because we were too lazy, shy or incompetent.
Call them on their lies instantaneously. If they refuse to answer a question, cut them off and take them off the broadcast, instantaneously. Let them know they won’t be back.
Personally, I don’t need the stomach churning frustration of that situation where a reporter has a chance to make a stand for truth and passes it up.
Executives are well paid to make sure standards are upheld. Are they all asleep?
