Running a bit late writing this, because I’ve been up all night watching scary Indonesian doll movies on Netflix, so I’ll keep this brief. Welcome friends to the Monday Good News Roundup. Now lets get to the good stuff.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) condemned President Donald Trump’s Saturday Twitter attack on Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-Md.) and his majority-black West Baltimore district, deeming it downright racist.
Defending the House Oversight and Reform Committee chair, Pelosi called him “a champion in the Congress and the country for civil rights and economic justice, a beloved leader in Baltimore, and deeply valued colleague.”
As yes, Trumps current twitter war with Cummings. Another battle that will end in humiliating defeat for him I’m sure. Big ups to Pelosi and the rest of the people standing in Cummings corner. And of course to Cummings himself.
CNN political commentator and Democratic strategist David Axelrod slammed President Trump's attack on Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-Md.), arguing the president's "stream of ugly, divisive bombast" could threaten his reelection chances.
"If @realDonaldTrump loses in 2020, this will be why," Axelrod wrote Saturday. "Every, single day, he subjects the country he was elected to lead to a stream of ugly, divisive bombast. It’s exhausting. It’s destructive. It’s unworthy of a POTUS."
Yep, experts agree, Trump is fighting a losing battle that will surely hurt him next year.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) is under fire from Democrats for repeatedly blocking election security legislation in recent days.
The simmering anger among Senate Democrats reached a boiling point this week when McConnell blocked two attempts to pass election bills shortly after former special counsel Robert Mueller warned that foreign governments will interfere in the 2020 elections.
“We are not going to let Leader McConnell put the bills passed by the House into his legislative graveyard without a fight. You're going to hear from us on this issue over and over again,” Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) said on the Senate floor.
And then there’s this A Hole.
It looks like Mitch being too weak and pathetic to do his job is coming back to haunt him. Lets ditch this loser.
The amended bill says internet service providers that are contracted by the state have to agree to provide “net neutral service.”
The law defines “net neutral service” as providing internet service without blocking lawful content or favoring some websites to benefit others. Maine would also require such providers to agree they won’t inappropriately “throttle,” or slow down, internet traffic based on content.
Been a while since we’ve had any net neutrality news,so here we go: Net Neutrality is coming to Maine. Congrats.
he Republican pathway for recapturing House control in next year's election charges straight through the districts of the most vulnerable Democratic incumbents, especially freshmen. Judging from early but formidable cash advantages those lawmakers have amassed, ousting them won't be easy.
Each of the 62 freshmen House Democrats has raised more money than their top opponent. The same is true for all 31 Democrats from districts President Donald Trump had won in 2016, and all 39 Democrats who snatched Republican-held seats last November.
In nearly all cases it's not even close. While there's overlap among the categories, most of these Democrats' war chests are multiples of what their leading challengers have garnered. That's testament to the historic ability of both parties' incumbents to attract contributions and Democrats' strategy of aggressively collecting money quickly to seize on the anti-Trump enthusiasm that fueled their House takeover last year .
Good news about the next election: We’re outpacing the GOP in fundraising. Lets keep it up!
