It’s Woozle Wednesday, and the dogs and other critter friends are here to welcome you to our furry corner of DKOS.
What’s the “Woozle Effect?” Well here at the Peeps, it's a case of “puppy love” — losing our heart to a precious pooch at first snuggle or tail wag or sloppy doggie kiss.
Out in the world of research, the Woozle Effect means something entirely different. It most often occurs in social science research where “evidence” may be less quantifiable and more interpretive than in pure science. A faulty idea is repeated and the reference even cited in other journals, reinforcing the original error until it becomes accepted as fact. Then the misinformation eventually enters the public realm. That’s not a good thing. Basically, the Woozle Effect boils down to “don’t believe everything you read.” And check the sources.
The woozles and pooties and their friends agree although skepticism doesn’t come naturally to critters. Dogs don’t mean to spread disinformation. It’s just that sometimes dogs misunderstand the hoomin world. And they can be pretty gullible. Sometimes woozles themselves are misunderstood. Is that the real source of the Woozle Effect?
It all began with Winnie the Pooh. The original Woozle is a rather nasty weasel-like creature that purportedly inhabits the Hundred Acres Wood. Woozles have a reputation for stealing honey. Although Piglet and Pooh have never seen a woozle, they firmly believe in their existence. The pair attempt to follow one when they come across some animal prints. The more the two friends follow the tracks, the more sets of prints they find. Is it a woozle invasion? Finally, Christopher Robin explains how the tracks the pair have been following around and around the spinney bushes are their own.
Before we begin searching out Woozles and busting myths for ourselves, however, we must pause to review the Peeps Rulz as requested by the Management:
- Do not “Troll” the Pootie Peeps Diaries. If you don’t like animal diaries, there’s no need to tell us about it. Just go find some other diary more to your liking.
- Whatever happens in the outer blog STAYS in the outer blog. This is a place to relax and play; please treat it accordingly. So, no pie fights please.
- If you would like a pic from the comment threads, please ask the poster. He/she may have a copyright to those pics. Many thanks!
- There are some pics we never post: 1) snakes and creepy crawlies (some folks have phobias). 2) Any and all photos that depict or encourage human cruelty toward animals, even in jest, are considered “out of bounds” and will not be tolerated.
- If you’re not sure about an issue...please ask. Someone is always glad to help.
- Links to the Community Needs List or other fundraising diaries are always welcome here. Just links with a short explanation, please, and not the entire fundraising request, per the management.
PWB Peeps posts two diaries a day for animal lovers: a daytime diary at 1:45 pm Eastern and a nightly open thread at 10 pm Eastern. We concoct silly stories, share photos, seek & give advice about pet health and behavior issues, support each other in times of sadness and stress, celebrate together when times are good, and on most days have an inordinate amount of fun.
You are welcome to join us below the fold!
Make sure you have on your Woozle misinformation detection device, because some Woozles are elusive. And, as always be kind to one another, we’re all in this this together.
Hope you enjoyed your visit to our virtual Woozle Effect hunt. Did you spot any? Well, better luck next time. The conversation is now open!
