Thom Hartmann has written a really fascinating article over at alternet. If I were you I’d just click on it right now and read it fresh, as there is no way I can do it justice here.
www.alternet.org/…
But for those of you who want an idea of what it’s about before you click, here’s a brief synopsis.
Turns out Ayn Rand based many of her “hero” characters, including Howard Roark, on a man named William Edward Hickman. He was guilty of one of the most notorious crimes of the 1920s. He kidnapped a young girl, murdered her, and then collected the ransom from her father in a way that will chill you to your bones.
Ayn Rand thought he was the paragon of humanity and wrote about it in her journals.
I’ll let Hartmann tell you the story in more detail, as he has done so brilliantly. But if you’re thinking that was then and this is now, the real brilliance of Hartmann’s article is how, in a terrifying way, he is able to trace the seeds that grew Donald Trump from Rand, and have bloomed in today’s GOP in a more extreme way than ever before.
It’s just one of those articles you read and then want to share, and though this may be a short diary, I couldn’t think of a better way to pass this story along.
I’m around if anyone wants to discuss.
