This week in Trump—and it's only Wednesday!—has been singularly horrifying and dangerous. He's endorsing himself as the "King of Israel." He's turned a private obsession—purchasing Greenland—into an international incident by canceling a state visit to Denmark because they hurt his feelers in joking about the issue. He's preparing again to ignore the courts and impose indefinite detention on migrant families. And that all happened in a 24-hour period.
He's also letting NRA dictate policy, condemning countless more Americans to violent deaths. With the total support of one Moscow Mitch McConnell, who is probably the one person who could rein this president in. Here's the oath of office McConnell has taken every time he's been sworn in to the Senate:
"I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter: So help me God."
The Constitution. Not the GOP. Not the NRA. Not the delusional president. Not Vladimir Putin.
McConnell could be working with his wife—Secretary of Transportation Elaine Chao—to do the one thing she is also sworn to do; defend the Constitution against all enemies foreign and domestic. Trump embodies both, as a matter of fact. But he's also objectively, demonstratively unfit to serve as president. He is delusional, paranoid, and unstable and demonstrates that multiple times a day in public on Twitter. He's a danger.
If there was any member of his cabinet—and the national is looking at you, Elaine Chao, aka Mrs. McConnell—to fulfill your oath of office and do the one thing you can. Invoke the 25th Amendment. If either of this power pair cared more about the nation than their comfort, they could save it. But they don't.
His Senate leadership has to end. Please give $1 to our nominee fund to help Democrats end McConnell's career as majority leader.
