So Macron invited Iran’s foreign minister, Javad Zarif, to the G7. Trump’s people say Macron didn’t tell Trump. Macron’s people say, “Oh, yes, he did.”
What does it mean?
Well, either Macron did or didn’t tell Trump. If he didn’t, then that means that Trump is neither respected nor feared by America’s closest allies. Americans are exceedingly accustomed to being respected and feared worldwide. They do not take kindly to a leader who appears weak.
If Macron told Trump, then either Trump’s people knew that or they didn’t. If they did, then they are 100% lying by saying Macron said nothing. What do they have to gain by telling that lie? It may be that the only card they have to play is the righteous indignation card, but that “I’m a victim of mean people” shtick has been going on for almost three years now and is wearing thin.
If Macron told Trump and Trump’s people didn’t know, then Trump didn’t tell them. Why not? Did he forget? Did he think it was unimportant? Neither of those bodes well for quashing rumors of the deterioration of an already unenlightened mind.
I think Macron and the other world leaders at the G7 have dealt Trump a blow that no American could have. Either Trump is weak or he’s feeble, or more probably both. “Vote weak and feeble in 2020!” is probably not a winning campaign slogan. We shall see...
