I think some movies ought to have reviews here on Daily Kos. Here is some information about movies coming out today.
If you write a review about one of these, please send a message to the Movie Review Group so that we can reblog it. Also send us messages to let us know about upcoming movie releases you think might get overlooked.
Some of these are limited releases.
Angel of Mine — A grieving mother becomes obsessed with someone else’s daughter. Limited release.
Before You Know It — A family secret puts two sisters into a “literal soap opera.” That blurb suggests a comedy, but it’s tagged as drama. Limited release.
Don’t Let Go — A twist on the communication across time concept of Frequency. Detective Radcliffe (David Oyelowo, whom you might remember as Martin Luther King, Jr. from Selma) gets the opportunity to prevent his niece’s murder before it happens after it actually happens.
Maybe this movie should have a review here on Daily Kos.
Falling Inn Love — This Netflix only limited release technically came out yesterday.
A woman (Christina Milian) wins a rustic inn in New Zealand. With the help of a contractor (Adam Demos), she intends to fix it up and flip it. But the title probably gives away what ends up happening instead.
The Fanatic — A movie fan becomes obsessed with his favorite actor. Cast includes John Travolta. I think this movie would provide a lot of fodder for our late night comedians... if only they weren’t so busy with all the blunders and crimes of the Trump maladministration.
Playmobil: The Movie — A young girl looks for her missing brother in a world that looks kind of like Legoland.
The August 9 release date refers to the UK release. Today is supposed to be the nationwide American release, but it would probably be a good idea to check your preferred theater’s website before going there.
Santa Girl — Santa Claus has a daughter promised in an arranged marriage to the son of Jack Frost. But she wants to leave the North Pole to go to college.
It could be interesting, but don’t go into it with high expectations. Limited release.
Tod@s Caen — I thought the at sign (“@”) in the title was a typo, but apparently it really is in the title of the movie. I hope that’s not the most interesting aspect about this movie.
Mia (Martha Higareda) thinks she has crafted a formula guaranteed to make any man fall madly in love with her. She expounds on this formula on her TV show titled Todos Caen (“All Men Fall”).
Likewise Adán (Omar Chaparro) thinks he can make any woman fall in love with him. So of course the paths of these two self-proclaimed experts will cross, and a battle of the sexes will ensue, complete with sports metaphors.
In Spanish with English subtitles. Limited release.
