As the nation has already begun to look ahead at 2020, it’s important to remember that there are vital elections to be won in 2019. Virginia State Delegate Danica Roem put it best in a recent tweet:
In Virginia this year, our entire state legislature will be on the ballot, along with counties, cities, sheriffs, district attorneys, and school boards. In the county I live in alone, there are 34 seats up for grabs, and two ballot initiatives that ask voters if they are willing to let our county borrow hundreds of millions of dollars for roads and parks.
2019 sets the table for 2020.
I’m running for the Prince William County Board of Supervisors; our county has been described as U.S. Senator Tim Kaine as “the battleground of the battleground” since we are the battleground for Virginia, and Virginia is a battleground for the nation. Trump has already said that if Republicans lose control of our state legislature, he’s giving up on Virginia next year.
I’m running this year to make sure that happens, and I’ve been getting some major backup to get it done.
Last night I held a fundraiser where three all-star state delegates from Prince William came out to support me — Danica Roem, Elizabeth Guzman, and Hala Ayala. We were also joined my House of Delegates Democratic Leader Eileen Filler-Corn, who stands to be Virginia’s first female Speaker of the House when we win the majority in November.
It was an awesome event, and I can’t thank everyone enough for attending. As it was to honor the beginning of Labor Day Weekend, we had strong union representation at the event as well; members of the electrical workers, pipe trades, ALF-CIO and printers were all present.
Democrats win when we come together from all over, work as a team, and row in the same direction up and down the ballot. Last night was just the beginning, too.
This morning, I had a joint door-knocking launch at our Dems HQ alongside several local candidates and the Virginia Secretary of Education, Atif Qarni.
We had dozens of volunteers come through the office today, allowing us to reach out to hundreds of voters; we managed to knock an entire voting district and a half just today! It was an honor to have our Secretary of Education join us, especially since he’s a former Prince William County teacher himself. Prince William County has been crushing Republican dreams since 2017, and we intend to takeover our county board and finish the job this year.
I just need your help to get there.
