From a previous poll about six months ago I know that only a small percentage of you have Twitter accounts, and few Kossacks even look at tweets directly from Twitter although no doubt you see them in articles here and elsewhere.
I didn’t come up with the hashtag #EndTheRecess, there are lots of tweets with it since yesterday, although I did add an original picture.
While it may not make a huge difference if a few hundred Kossack’s start using Twitter every little bit helps. Look how #MoscowMitch got under McConnell’s skin. Tweets that trend, the Twitter version of going viral, can sometimes do, have an impact.
If you have a Twitter account you can go here to comment on my tweet.
For those who don’t know, non-Twitter account holders can read Twitter posts and the comments to them, but they can’t comment themselves.
I encourage you to open a Twitter account at twitter.com
Update:
I didn’t make it clear why I think Congress really should be put back in session instead of having the members go back to their district with Congress shut down.
The actual passing of gun legislation isn't the point. This could be done when they return. The message they need to send is to the country is that they are taking a symbolic stand against white nationalism and the against president being the agent provocateur for those inclined towards violence. Passing legislation about guns wouldn’t have much of an actual effect on such white extremist violence for years anyway.
There may be some legislation about hate crimes that would have a timely effect.
Forming a commission and/or some mandated intelligence agency focus on white nationalist terrorism would probably have a more immediate effect. It would send a message that despite Trump the country is taking this as a matter of absolutely vital importance.
Having hearings in both the House and Senate would be a possibility too.
I think everything possible should be done to keep public attention on the deadly evil Trump has wrought. This could serve to put a damper on his inflammatory rally rhetoric and disappoint his MAGA crowds who come to participate in a hatefest led by their führer.
Hell, legislators can still go home for three or four day weekends and have their town halls. They should be able to do both.
