The farmers Donald Trump is trying to buy off with hurriedly enacted new subsidies are going to need a lot more subsidies after this: China has announced it has ended its purchases of U.S. agricultural products completely in response to Trump's announced new $300 billion in tariffs.
First and foremost, this is a potential economic crisis in the making—at least for American farmers, who have already been struggling in tough market conditions. But it's also a complete unraveling of Trump's previous claim that he had negotiated a brilliant new deal in which China would purchase more U.S. farm products, not less.
No worries, though: Since Trump is a habitual liar on all fronts, nobody believed him to begin with.
