55 Days from now, Virginia will have one of its most consequential elections in a generation. All 100 state house seats are up for grabs, along with all 40 state senate seats, and just about every local seat you can think of including county boards, school boards, sheriffs, commonwealth attorneys, and even soil & water commissioners (yes, we elect those here.) We have a chance to become the first Southern state where both the entire legislature and all statewide offices are controlled by Democrats.
If you’re a Republican, you’re getting really desperate at this point. With a president who embarrasses your party daily, a losing message, and candidates who cozy up to white supremacists, what do you have left to help you win? Vandalism and property damage, of course.
Over the past several days, Democratic campaigns have found their signs vandalized, stolen, or torn up along roadways throughout Virginia. This has been a problem for years, but the past couple of election cycles have been even worse. Delegate Elizabeth Guzman posted the above picture; here is the tweet:
State Senate candidate Ronnie Ross has also encountered the same:
Apparently when you’re out of ideas, and you can feel your hold on a state slipping away, you resort to destroying other candidate’s property and trying to ruin the investment of grassroots Democratic donors from throughout our communities and country.
We can make sure this doesn’t go unanswered, but we need your help. Some easy steps:
- Make sure everyone you know who lives in Virginia knows there’s an election on November 5th.
- Make sure they know that the deadline to register to vote (or update their existing registration if they’ve moved) is October 15th.
- Make sure they know that they can begin voting early on September 21st.
- Donate to Elizabeth Guzman & Ronnie Ross to help them defray the cost of having to put up new signs.
...and, if you have any room left in the budget, kindly support local candidates like myself who are fighting to bring turnout up from the bottom of the ticket, and to begin disrupting the Republican farm team that has been trying to keep control for decades.
2019 sets the table for 2020. Help us prove that Republicans have every reason to be desperate, but their tactics aren’t going to work anyway.
