NPR’s Morning Edition today aired a disgusting, shameless attack on Christine Blasey Ford. As has become its normal MO, the show brought in a partisan hack, Jonah Goldberg, to discuss the NY Times story and new book about Brett Kavanaugh’s multiple sexual assaults and the cover-up that Republicans engineered during his confirmation hearing. Goldberg proceeded to slander Ford, accusing her of fabricating her story for partisan reasons. That’s right, fellow privileged white male Goldberg thinks that ol’ Brett could never have done all these things women were saying, reasoning that it’s far more likely that Ford et al. wanted to upend their lives and commit perjury in a partisan effort that was likely to fail to stop this one guy from reaching the court.
It was disgusting that Goldberg said it, but it was far worse that NPR allowed him on to say it and did not make the slightest effort to challenge his assertion or clarify that he was just talking out of his ass without any evidence whatsoever. Below is the message I sent to the public editor, and I encourage you to blast them as well.
“I was shocked and appalled that Morning Edition today aired a vicious, partisan slur against Christine Blasey Ford from right-wing apologist Jonah Goldberg. He baselessly accused Ford of fabricating her story about Brett Kavanaugh for partisan reasons. His offer of some vague later comment by her lawyer does not even come close to offering sufficient evidence that Ford turned her own life upside-down and committed perjury before the US Senate for partisan reasons. This sham commentator did this after blasting the NY Times for publishing a story without sufficient evidence! What NPR did in allowing this attack on Ford to go unchallenged was a disgrace to journalism and a disgusting hit job. Until NPR issues an apology and bans Goldberg from its programming, I condemn NPR for its shoddy, irresponsible journalism.”
