Condoleezza Rice took the opportunity to drop some top notch false equivalency on Sunday.
When asked for her response to Trump saying there were good people on both sides at Charlottesville, she gave a hilarious “Trump should be more careful” response, then quickly pivoted and deflected with some “what aboutism” in regard to left wing criticism of African American Republicans. Of course, painting said criticism as the equivalent of Trump’s defense of white supremacists is ridiculous. It’s simply pointing out that they’re voting against their own self interest (see Voter ID laws, opposition to Affirmative Action programs, the demonization of BLM, the immediate jump to defend law enforcement every time an African American kid is shot by police, etc.)
You also have to love the way she framed this. “The president needs to be a lot more careful.” As if Trump ‘accidentally’ defended white supremacists. Let us not forget that Trump has said the greatest regret of his Presidency so far was that he let his handlers talk him into trying to clean up his “good people on both sides” statement.
Come on Condi. You grew up in Birmingham, Alabama. You often speak about remembering the 16th St. Baptist Church bombing by white supremacists that took the lives of 4 little girls. Now look at you. Deflecting when asked about the POTUS defending white supremacists.
I guess we can add Condi to the list of Republicans that once knew how inept/dangerous Trump is (i.e. Lindsey Graham, Ted Cruz, etc.), but now will deflect and defend to protect him.
