Sen. Mitt Romney is the first prominent Republican lawmaker to suggest that Donald Trump’s apparent effort to pressure Ukraine to dig up dirt on his political rival would be “troubling, in the extreme.”
Of note: While Romney couches his statement with a preliminary “if”, both Trump and personal attorney Rudy Giuliani have in public statements confirmed that they made exactly those requests.
Romney has so far offered no suggestion as to how to ensure the facts “come out,” nor did he elaborate on what consequence should follow if Trump and Giuliani were found to have taken the actions they now publicly claim they have taken.
