So the tube was on and lo what did appear, blathering at the United Nations about America First, how we’ll defeat “globalism,” how great our Black and Hispanic jobs numbers are, thanks to himself of course, etc etc and so forth. It was nasty.
But one thing REALLY got my back up. As you know he’s all into “religious freedom” these days which is code for “we white male ultra right wing misogynists have the religious freedom to deny the rest of you YOUR religious freedom, human rights and health care especially if you are wimmen!”
He launched into a rant about The Sanctity of Life, which is rich considering his policies that destroy the environment, shred families, he tries to expel sick people so they will die, he attacks health care and all but incites violence and cuts off foreign aid to starving people in Central America then refuses them asylum and claims they’re all criminals.
Anyway, the gigantic orange hypocrite says we must deny abortion. That’s right. Because of Religious Freedom we must honor the fetus. It must be born period. This business of Abortion on Demand must stop, says he, and declares, “there is no international right to an abortion.”
To which I say F*** YOU you giant mistake of nature and nurture; all human beings have an innate right to manage their own bodies and their own lives.
From NPR, reporting on Trump and his “Health and Human Services” secretary Alex Azar,
The Trump administration is calling on U.N. member nations to oppose efforts to promote access to abortion internationally, a move immediately criticized by reproductive rights groups seeking greater access to the services globally.
At a meeting of the United Nations General Assembly in New York on Monday, U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar spoke on behalf of the U.S. and more than a dozen other countries stating that abortion is not an international human right.
"We do not support references to ambiguous terms and expressions such as 'sexual and reproductive health and rights' in U.N. documents, because they can undermine the critical role of the family and promote practices like abortion in circumstances that do not enjoy international consensus and which can be misinterpreted by U.N. agencies," Azar said.
The remarks came at a U.N. summit focused largely on climate change and health care. Azar was joined by representatives from countries including Brazil, Poland and Iraq in making the statement, which was signed by a total of 19 countries including the United States.

This is a direct attack on women’s freedom, health care, dignity and inherent right to control our own bodies. It is also in this context an attack on the freedom of religion of all the people on this earth who don’t think like Trump and Pence.
I can’t believe an American administration in the 21st century has taken it upon themselves to promote medieval misogyny but here we are. It’s galling precisely because we are supposed to be a democracy that respects ALL religions, no religion, and all genders including women. The oppression of women and religious “others” is by definition about as anti-democratic as you can get.
In practical terms this policy abuses women. It costs women their lives. It damages their lives, their economic outlook, the prosperity of their families. And, we are looking squarely at a climate catastrophe that makes us all vulnerable to dire changes in our food supply and supporting ecosystems. So this is bigoted but also insane.
The plight of women around the world is often dire. Patriarchies abound, along with rapes, forced marriages, public shaming, punishment for any kind of sexual transgression according to whatever misogynistic social standards are in play. Women are frequently very poor, not least because we’re often forced to bear too many children. Childbearing itself even in a medically advanced, wealthy nation is far harder on the mind, body, pocketbook and soul than people want to admit.
In poor countries with limited access to health care women frequently die in childbirth or suffer horrendous injuries. Forcing women to bear children when they are too young, have been raped or otherwise victimized or if they lack economic resources or have an illness themselves is barbarous.
