The best antidote to hot takes is hard data, and the September Daily Kos/Civiqs poll is here with your cure. This month’s survey of 1,548 registered voters was conducted online from Sept. 21-24 and should have Donald Trump extremely worried.
In head-to-head matchups, Trump would lose to Sen. Elizabeth Warren (48-44%), Joe Biden (47-43%), and Sen. Bernie Sanders (46-44%) if the election were held this month.
Other noteworthy findings in this poll include:
-
A majority of Americans (52%) support the National Popular Vote (NPV) interstate compact, which would guarantee that the candidate who receives the most votes nationwide wins the presidency.
-
Support for the NPV interstate compact is sharply divided along party lines: 89% of Democrats support it, while only 10% of Republicans do.
-
President Trump’s job approval rating is 41%, with 54% who disapprove.
Additional issues surveyed include purchasing attitudes in response to corporate mistreatment of workers and environmentally irresponsible business practices, decriminalizing sex work, Hurricane Dorian, and Fox News and MSNBC viewership.
This month’s poll pretty definitively demonstrates that Republicans are unwilling to support the fairest and most democratic way to elect a president—a way that would have denied Trump the presidency, since he lost the national popular vote by almost 2.9 million.
