Rep. Terri Sewell discussing whether this action — that Maguire took a whistleblower complaint before the people who were subjects of that complaint — will have a chilling effect on future whistleblowers.
Maguire agrees with her concerns. Says that he has sent a note to everyone in the IC to insist he supports the whistleblower.
Asks if Maguire has given instruction to the whistleblower that he can come before Congress. (Note: earlier, Atkinson indicated that Maguire refused to allow him to prepare the whistlblower to come before Congress).
Maguire begin ticking off a list of items … Sewell insists on whether or not the whistleblower has been cleared to come forward. Maguire insisting that he is working with Schiff to make it happen.
Schiff steps in to make clear that the holdup is clearance for the whistleblower’s counsel, and obtains Maguire’s assurance that once that is worked through, the whistleblower can appear with full protection of the law.
So … expect a hearing with the whistleblower, which will surely be a closed door hearing.
