The Georgia Department of Natural Resources’ hunting regulations say that, until Oct. 19, deer hunters may only use primitive weapons. This means bow hunting—no rifles. Unfortunately, 17-year-old Bobby Lane and an unidentified friend decided to use rifles when they went out deer hunting late last week. According to WJXT4, Lane’s hunting partner shot him, mistaking his friend for a deer in a thicket of bushes.
The hunting partner “helped carry the injured man to a Friendly Express store on Highway 82 to get help.” Lane was rushed to a hospital, where he died from his injuries.
Lane’s cousin Michael Rawling spoke with reporters, saying that his cousin was a good-hearted kid who loved hunting, "You don't expect anything like this to happen to a child. It's very hard. Very, very hard."
