Back in 2015 I promised my son that I would build him a treehouse after he earned his brown belt in Karate. My original design was pretty simple, a box on a platform up in the tree. I always planned on running power up to the house, insulate it and include heat and AC.
When I was a kid we built assorted structures up on this same hill and never used them. Too cold, too hot, no power to do anything. So I knew the only way it would get used is if it was comfortable and there was a TV to run all of his video games on.
Well, what I had originally thought would be about a year project turned into four years. As I am a teacher I really could only work on it durning breaks and over summer vacation. It took four years because the project grew, I decided that for the house to get use after my son moved out that it needed to also work as a guest house. So, a loft the size of a queen sized mattress was added as was a bathroom.
It was hard work but I’m happy with the results. There are still some small projects to finish and there will be regular maintenance to deal with, but that just gives me something to do.
You can view over 250 pictures of the whole process at MySonsTreehouse.com. The most current pictures are at the top, spool down to the bottom of the album to see pictures from the beginning of the build.
So, I started it when my son became a brown belt, three degree’s of brown and a first degree black belt later I’m “almost” done.
