Chris Hayes interviewed Senator Doug Jones from Alabama tonight. Hayes asked Jones what he thought about what was going on in Florida and Georgia. Jones said that the governor of Alabama had stood strong despite the pressure from the likes of the Georgia and Florida governors’ moves, and that he is thinking about asking her if Alabama needs to close its borders to Georgia and Florida to keep Alabamans safe.
Now listen here, y’all. I’ve spent half my life living in Georgia and Florida and I love them both. Hell, my ancestors on both side of the family generations deep, nay centuries deep, lived in Georgia. I plan to die in my house here in Florida, and by that time, lord willing and the creeks don’t rise, I will have lived half my life here.
You may have to be a Southerner to truly get this, but Alabama is the brunt of tons and tons of Georgian and Floridian jokes. The way Doug Jones responded to Chris Hayes tonight made me laugh my ass off. My hat’s off to him. I think Alabama will reelect him if he keeps representing them so well!
