Photo Diary: Round Lake Park, St Pete FL

This is one of the smaller parks in the Pinellas County parks system, but I used to visit it often because it was right near my old apartment. It’s a nice place to have a picnic lunch, feed the turtles, and relax.

The lake looks like a sinkhole that filled in. It became a city park in 1913, and when the tourist trade took off in 1916 there was talk of establishing an alligator farm here, but that never happened. The lake was surrounded by posh homes for many years. Now the area is part of downtown St Pete.
