This week, Daily Kos was joined by MoveOn, Need to Impeach, and Public Citizen in launching a national campaign to place pressure on key Senate Republicans to do their job and ensure a fair impeachment trial that includes witness testimony.
The groups invested more than $400,000 toward these efforts, which include mobile billboards, digital ads, and field organizing. Altogether, they are targeting Republican senators in eight states: Sens. Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, Martha McSally of Arizona, Cory Gardner of Colorado, Joni Ernst of Iowa, Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, Susan Collins of Maine, Thom Tillis of North Carolina, and Mitt Romney of Utah.
As CNN notes:
The campaigns aim to push vulnerable Republicans into backing an impeachment trial that would include witnesses in the coming weeks, as well as pressuring senators to vote to remove President Donald Trump from office.
The billboards and digital ads are set to run through this Saturday, Jan. 11, but may be extended as necessary while the impeachment hearings continue. Although the House voted to impeach, the Senate trial remains in flux as Speaker Nancy Pelosi withholds the articles of impeachment in the interest of ensuring a fair trial. Pelosi and House Democrats have been pressuring Senate Majority Leader McConnell to provide written rules for the trial that guarantee witnesses will be permitted to give testimony.
News of the progressive pressure campaign was also picked up by The Hill and the Courier Journal.
