A favorite author of mine (who has written just one book so far!) just tweeted some advice for ‘new writers.’ It was to write everything down. I think her idea was that you never know when a thought or an idea will find a place in future projects. So keep everything.
I thought about it because it is something I do. I think it is important, also.

There are lots of ways to record thoughts and ideas. It can be done in a tablet, in a voice memo, in an email, on tiny slips of paper. While I have used all of those ways before, my current practice is a consistent one, and I can use it anywhere except in the shower, because I always have my phone with me. Yep, I write it down with the phone.
But phones are so capable these days, they offer multiple ways to write it down. Yes, a voice memo is always an option, but I rarely use them. I use them sometimes when I am walking on a trail where I have to pay close attention to where I step, because typing a note on the phone requires stopping, or taking the risk of a bad fall. Voice to text could work, but I really do never use that option. As its accuracy improves, that could change. I can adapt.
Almost all times I do type the thoughts and ideas, however. But I don’t use a phone notepad or text file. I record them in a text.
Now, who are you going to send a text to, BeninSC?! Who would care about your ideas and thoughts? Who would respect their privacy?
Of course, many of my friends have helped me on many occasions with thoughts and ideas. They are exceptionally trustworthy and reliable. Yet, even given that truth, I don’t send the texts to them.
I send them to me. I know it sounds funny, but I have sent myself literally thousands of texts in the past year. They are safe, saved, easily read and moved when I am back at the computer. And they’re quite private. Sometimes I don’t even let me read them. (J/k.)
I call them ‘texties.’
And I recommend them very highly! If they can fit into your processes! :)

Brillig's ObDisclaimer: The decision to publish each nomination lies with the evening's Diarist and/or Comment Formatter. My evenings at the helm, I try reeeeallllyy hard to publish everything without regard to content. I really do, even when I disagree personally with any given nomination. "TopCommentness" lies in the eyes of the nominator and of you, the reader - I leave the decision to you. I do not publish self-nominations (ie your own comments) and if I ruled the world, we'd all build community, supporting and uplifting instead of tearing our fellow Kossacks down. From brillig:
Meteor Blades’ FBI tweets its 'honors' to Dr. King with zero mention of its attacks on him had several people who I’m not linking to wondering why this topic. I believe he answers that beautifully (and far more politely than I could have) in this comment.
