I was looking at non-political stories today and noticed this in the technology section of Google News:
Google Will Re-Assess its New-Look Desktop Search Display After Criticism of the Latest Update
Google is backtracking on its controversial desktop search results redesign
This has little to do with impeachment or politics but just being curious I thought I’d take a look at what came up when I did a Google search of simply “Trump” to see what ads were there and I was surprised to discover there was only one ad. I wasn’t surprised to see that the mega-billionaire running for president had an ad, but I was surprised to see that there was no ad for Trump.
Off course Trump’s Wikipedia page is prominent on the Google page:
Trump’s factual Wikipedia entry is not exactly complementary unless you are totally in the tank for him and his reprehensible policies:
Excerpt from the introduction:
Trump entered the 2016 presidential race as a Republican and defeated 16 other candidates in the primaries. His political positions have been described as populist, protectionist, and nationalist. Despite being disfavored in most forecasts, he was elected in a surprise victory over Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton, although he lost the popular vote.[b] He became the oldest first-term U.S. president,[c] and the first without prior military or government service. His election and policies have sparked numerous protests. Trump has made many false or misleading statements during his campaign and presidency. The statements have been documented by fact-checkers, and the media have widely described the phenomenon as unprecedented in American politics. Many of his comments and actions have also been characterized as racially charged or racist.
During his presidency, Trump ordered a travel ban on citizens from several Muslim-majority countries, citing security concerns; after legal challenges, the Supreme Court upheld the policy's third revision. He enacted a tax-cut package for individuals and businesses, rescinding the individual health insurance mandate. He appointed Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court. In foreign policy, Trump has pursued an America First agenda, withdrawing the U.S. from the Trans-Pacific Partnership trade negotiations, the Paris Agreement on climate change, and the Iran nuclear deal, eventually increasing tensions with the country. He recognized Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, imposed import tariffs triggering a trade war with China, and attempted negotiations with North Korea toward its denuclearization.
How could the Trump weasel Brad Parscale, the 2020 campaign manager who is supposed to be a digital media genius, not buy a Trump ad for a Google search, I wondered? After all this would be a counterbalance to the Wikipedia entry for his supporters.
Trump, ever the unfunny insult comic, even found a name for Mike Bloomberg
apparently this is because Bloomberg is “only” 5’ 8”
though even giving Trump the benefit of the doubt when he brags about how rich he is, Bloomberg is 17 time richer.
Then I searched “Donald Trump” and there was Parscale’s handiwork on the top the search result page as the only ad:
Mike Bloomberg doesn’t have any ads on Google for a search of Donald Trump, perhaps because his experts figure that the president never refers to himself that way preferring to call himself only by his last name when he’s not calling himself your president.
I suspect that most people wanting to read the latest stories about the president use only his last name for their Internet searches.
What, you may ask, comes up when you do a Google search for my president which is what is MAGA crowds think he is when he calls himself their president?
How’s this for irony? It is none other than a video of a young Kanye West singing a song praising Barack Obama.
The photo above was used in the Newsweek story TRUMP FAN KANYE WEST WEARS 'MAGA' HAT TO MEXICAN RESTAURANT.
USA reported that he was still supporting Trump:
“Kanye West is also a vocal Trump supporter. In 2018, he called Trump his "brother." "You don't have to agree with trump but the mob can't make me not love him," he added on Twitter. In Jan. 2020, he tweeted: "Trump all day”
but the tweet is really from Jan. 1, 2019 so who knows whether he still supports him.
Most rap music grates on me like chalk on a chalkboard, so I could only stand to listen to 10 seconds of this.
