So this happened.
On Tuesday, January 28th Donald Trump came to Wildwood, New Jersey to hold a rally to the faithful and show support for newly-minted Republican, Jeff Van Drew. The above image shows the aftermath, the top one is of those who attended the Trump rally, the bottom one the rally in opposition. And the differences don’t stop there.
The counter-rally was filled with people who were for the most part happy, glad to be representing. There was music, both live and recorded, There were lots of families present, lots of handmade signs and a truly amazing line up of speakers. Everyone there was prepared to have a great time! The Trumpers who surrounded us were not nearly so happy.
For people who supposedly are “winning” I’ve never seen a more miserable bunch. They spent hours yelling, harrassing, using language that would make a sailor blush (did I mention there were children present) and overall attempting to disrupt at every opportunity. And I’m not even going into the spitting and throwing stuff.
It was nice to see the “family values” crowd heckle and shout over the ordained minister who gave the opening benediction. I guess he wasn’t the right kind of “Christian”. Their chants of “U” “S” “A” to drown out the speakers really lets you know how little they understand of the democratic process, and what America is supposed to stand for.
The members of Cape May County Indivisible and 30 other progressive groups from New Jersey and surrounding states spent time registering new voters, giving out campaign and other pertinent information. They also gave out hot coffee and hand warmers, because the sea breeze in January in New Jersey is nothing to be trifled with. It was very cold. And the Trumpers decided to it was worth their time to freeze themselves just so they could heckle, and yell profanities, and spit on rally goers. So much winning.
The Mayor of Wildwood was dis-invited from attending the great Trump event because he had the temerity to ask the Trump campaign to pay money towards clean-up, extra police, etc. The answer he received is in the picture above and while the PWD of Wildwood did an exemplary job of cleaning up the monumental piles of trash left behind it’s just a shame that the taxpayers of Wildwood had to foot the bill.
Here are a few more pictures from the rally. The people standing on the boardwalk above the crowd are Trumpers.
